The venue was different and there were fewer participants, but the 10th annual East County Economic Summit found success in its focus on local issues and speakers.
That’s the impression of Travis Stovall, whose The Stovall Group hosted the event Thursday, Oct. 8, at East Hill Church’s Kid City in downtown Gresham.
“The biggest thing that made this year a success was a focus on local,” Stovall said. “In the past we brought in some great speakers” from around the country. “This year we primarily focused on local speakers and presenters. That’s the key right now to what’s happening” in the economy and business world, he added.
Presenters in the half-day event included Don Hendrickson of the Boeing Company; Jon Nicolazzo of American Funds; Gresham Mayor Shane T. Bemis; Gresham Economic Development Services Director Janet Young; Bess Wills of Gresham Ford; Heidi Olson of Olson & Associates; and Leah McMahon, of Silk Espresso, among others.
The event moved from Persimmon Country Club, where it has been held for several years, to the small-town mockup and props that is “Kid City” at East Hill Church, which served to emphasize the localized theme.
